I have only written a couple of patterns so please excuse any mistakes and if you find something I missed feel free to let me know.
I looked for a quick pattern for Easter chicks but most I found had several parts and too much sewing for my liking so I made my own: these chicks are made entirely in one piece
A great little project for this time of year and a way to use up those little bits of yarn leftover.
Please feel free to link to the pattern but do not copy or give out
Easter chick pattern:
written in US terms
EDIT ( thanks for pointing it out) I used DK (double knit) wool with an E/ 3.5mm hook
Finished size for me is about 3.5" tall
Join each row with a slip stitch
Stitches used:
CH - chain
SC - single crochet
HDC - half double crochet
sc2tog - single crochet 2 together
Start with either a magic circle or chain2
row 1: 5 sc in magic circle (or 1st chain)
row 2: 2sc in each stitch around
row 3: *sc in next st 2sc in next* repeat to end
row 4: *sc in next 2 stitches 2sc inc in next repeat* to end
rows 5 - 8: sc in each stitch around joining with sl st
row 9: in FRONT loops
Option 1: slip stitch around for straight egg shell edge
Option 2: for broken shell look, in front loops only, randomly combine sc hdc and dc to give ragged look stitch count here does not matter
Fasten off and cut yarn (this is also a good point to sew in your starter tail to make sure the magic circle does not come undone)
Attach colour 2
row 10: in back loops of previous round sc around join with sl st
rows 11-12 sc around
row 13 wings: sc in the first 5 stitches,* sc in front loops of the next 3 TURN chain 1 HDC in next 2 stitches chain 1 TURN sc in next 2 stitches (This bit is harder to explain so I hope you get it) chain 2 then join with a slip stitch to the first chain of the wing, (this brings you back to the bottom of the wing) chain 1*
SC in the next 6 sc then repeat *-* above for the next 3 stitches to create the other wing SC to end sl st to join
row 14: SC around but skip the first stitch (sc in back loops only for the 3 stitches behind the wings on each side).
rows 15: SC around but skip the first stitch so it decreases.
Add the eyes (row 16 is where i placed mine) and sew a few stitches for the beak, then stuff firmly
row 18: *sc2tog, sc in next 2* repeat to end
row 19: *sc2tog, sc in next* repeat to end
Fasten off leaving a long tail
use the tail to sew in front loops only and close the tiny hole at the top, Fasten off
I use the left over tail to pull 2 strands through and loop then cutting short and brushing to make the hair.
Sew in ends and you are all done
Please leave me comments if you don't understand something and I will try to explain better these are for more advanced crocheters because there are a few confusing bits.
I would love to see how you do add a picture below and let me see how they come out for you :)

I loved this pattern! I've made one and almost finished a second, but I need to stop at the craft store and get some more eyes. Thank you so much for the free pattern.
